This lesson introduces some background knowledge on ideas about marriage in Victorian times, looking at a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson and some ideas about marriage from Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen). Activities include discussion, summarising, scanning, Kahoot to check learning, match-up task and watching a short clip from Pride and Prejudice. Plenary at end asks students to summarise what the benefits of marriage were at this time for men and women.
