This lesson introduces KS3 students to the context of Victorian schooling. Using short extracts from Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre and Charles Dickens’ Nicholas Nickleby, the lesson includes a range of activities including summarising, reading and testing via a Kahoot quiz, complete the blanks task to consider the conditions at Victorian schools, use of inference to work out what Dickens wants us to understand about the boys at Dotheboys Hall and a drama plenary activity.
