All 11 lessons for AQA GCSE Biology Topic 1: Cell biology. Editable PowerPoints, lesson plans, differentiated worksheets, exam questions and answers.
What is this resource?
This bundle is the complete set of lessons for AQA GCSE Biology (8461) Topic 1: Cell biology — 11 lessons of about an hour each, in scheme-of-work order. It takes students from their first look down a microscope through to osmosis, with the maths of magnification and scale built in rather than bolted on.
Every lesson follows the same structure, so students know what to expect: a curiosity-led starter on the board as they come in, learning objectives at three levels of challenge (Developing, Secure and Mastery), two or three activities with a core task plus scaffolded support and stretch, a quick stand-back check after each activity, and a plenary that goes back to the objectives and the starter.
Everything is editable. The slides are PowerPoint, the lesson plans and worksheets are Word, and nothing is locked, so you can cut a slide, change a name or swap an example for one your class knows.
What’s included
• 11 complete PowerPoint lessons — 343 slides in total, with teacher notes on every slide.

• All answers and mark schemes, in the lesson plan and in the teacher notes.

Differentiation and inclusion
Each activity has a core task everyone does, a support route and a stretch task, so one lesson works across a mixed-ability class without preparing three versions. Support sheets are marked “S” and are offered as a choice, never assigned to named students. The design follows the British Dyslexia Association style guide: Arial, a cream background, generous spacing, bold as the only emphasis, and no meaning carried by colour alone. Answers use Yes and No rather than ticks and crosses, every diagram has alt text, and sensitive topics carry teacher notes.
Stem cell lessons present the ethical arguments fairly and include a teacher note on handling the discussion.
How you could use it
• Teach it as it is: the order follows the AQA scheme of work, and each lesson is timed for about an hour.
• Set a lesson for cover: the Word lesson plan has timings, answers and the equipment list.
• Print the worksheets as a revision pack, or use the exam-style questions as homework.
• Edit anything: the PowerPoints and Word files are fully editable, so you can drop in your own examples.
• Use the stand-back questions and exit tickets as retrieval practice later in the course.
Specification coverage
Full coverage of AQA GCSE Biology (8461) specification 4.1.1.1 to 4.1.3.2. Each lesson lists its specification reference on the cover slide and in the lesson plan.
Both Topic 1 required practicals are here as full lessons: microscopy, and osmosis in plant tissue.
There is no Higher Tier only content in this topic, so every lesson suits both tiers.
