This is a comprehensive lesson plan for an Art lesson based on the topic of Space for Year 5/6.
The pupils will discuss what their helmet may need if they are going to use it in space e.g. air supply, lights, communication device to talk to other astronauts. Next, the pupils look at example helmets from the Sputnik and Apollo space programmes and identify the similarities and differences between the helmets.
You then tell the children that we will be creating their own helmet in a few lessons time and that they should make a few draft sketches focusing on the shape of the helmet, colours used on the helmet, identifying marks used on the helmet and attachments to be added to their helmet.
