This lesson plan for Year 5/6 gets pupils to discuss the shape and design of space helmets using in the Sputnik and Apollo programmes. Next, pupils plan to make their own space helmet using papier mache and think about the materials they could use for this task. E.g. what will they use for an aerial and air vents.
Pupils then go on to making 3D sketches of how their finished helmet will look and label the drawing with the materials they will use to create the helmet. They should then plan the sequence in which they will build their helmet.
