The dime is the smallest coin but it is worth more than the nickel, and that one fact trips up almost every student who goes by size. I have seen coin practice fall apart when students also have to read the question and write the answer. This set takes the reading and writing out so students can focus on the coins. Each coin is a clear drawing with its value printed on it, every amount is under a dollar, and every answer is a picture to circle.

What’s included
20 pages, US Letter and A4.
• Set 1, which coin is this? Students circle the penny, nickel, dime or quarter
• Set 2, which coins make the price? Students circle the group of coins that makes an amount like 35 cents
• Set 3, which costs more? Students compare 2 or 3 price tags in cents
• Set 4, do I have enough? Students circle the green check or the red X
• Teacher guide with ways to answer, easier and harder options, and the coin math for every Set 4 card
• Coin rules picture poster
• Coin word wall with large penny, nickel, dime and quarter drawings, price tag, cents, yes, no and teen items
• 40 picture task cards with 2 or 3 picture choices, 4 per page with cut lines
• Picture recording sheet where students circle the same picture they picked
• Answer key that names each picture and its place in the row (left, middle or right)
• IEP data sheet with prompt levels and a sample goal
• Blank cards for making your own with items and prices from your school store

How to use it
Start with Set 1 until students name the four coins, then move through the sets in order. The coin sizes follow real coins, so you can talk about the dime being small but worth more. It works well for centers or one-on-one practice. Print and cut, or laminate and use with a dry erase marker.

Who it’s for
Grades 6-12 special education, life skills and transition classes, for nonreaders and emerging readers with moderate to severe needs.
