Unit 1: Learning to Listen is a complete four-lesson Music Appreciation Curriculum unit for ages 10–14, suitable for upper KS2 and KS3 Music. It gives students a clear, repeatable approach to active listening, helping them move from first impressions towards precise musical description, comparison, interpretation and evidence-based judgement.
Across the unit, students learn to notice what stands out, listen again with a purpose, identify and describe musical features accurately, compare musical choices and justify their ideas using evidence from what they hear.
