Arthur Miller’s tragic tale of a working man’s professional and emotional decline, explores the concept of a failed American Dream, and continues to entertain audiences worldwide in both film and theatre. In our post-modern political and social fields of conflict and change, it remains a significant text. I have taught this play many times over the last 20 years. I have used this specific resource (revised in 2021) to lead my teaching in class, as a distance learning material (Google Meet/SKYPE lessons), as a homework assignment and even as a tool of revision – all have worked well for the students.

This dynamically illustrated PowerPoint lesson (26 slides) provides approximately 2 hours teaching time and works as an engaging introduction to the text. Through structured written and discussion tasks the students explore the following areas:

  • The life of the author and how this shaped the content of his literary works.
  • The leading themes present in the ‘Death of a Salesman’ text.
  • The characterisation of the leading personalities within the same text.

This is a complete resource with no further work required from the teacher. Enjoy!
