This lesson introduces students to how the first police force came to exist and where prisoners were put when there was no room left in the prisons. They will then look at example of a convict in the form of Magwitch from Great Expectations and finish with a brief introduction to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. Activities include a quiz, summarising, short diary entry, information retrieval and drawing a mind map.
