This lesson is identification and calculating height.
Crime Scenario:
“Local law enforcement have asked for your help in identifying bones for possible identification of a missing person or persons. A local farmer was riding the fence line of his property when his horse was spooked. When he got off the horse to look around, he discovered some human skeletal remains. He immediately contacted the local police department. For each bone, you will need to calculate approximate height. When all heights have been approximated, compare them to the list of missing persons for possible matches.”
NOTE: I used this lesson with 7th and 8th graders but it could be leveled up or down.
