Crime Scenario:
“Mrs. Maxey’s room is a great room to have a faculty meeting because it is a lab with tables instead of student desks, it’s centrally located in the building, and it’s right across the hall from the main office. Mr. Stewart asked Mrs. Maxey if he could use her room to have a short meeting after school with the Social Studies and English teachers. She said yes because she would be outside for after school bus duty. When Mrs. Maxey returned to her room after bus duty, she was straightening up and noticed some spit wads on the walls. She knows the wads were not there at the end of her last class so it must have been the teachers, and we all know that teachers can be just as ornery as students. She found 4 spit wads. Mrs. Maxey spoke with Mr. Stewart about it. She told him that she could pinpoint where the spit wads came from if only she knew who was at the meeting and where they were sitting. Mr. Stewart said he could help with that. Your job is to determine who the culprits are!”
NOTE: I used this lesson with 7th and 8th graders but it could be leveled up or down.
