Phrasal verbs (PVs) are often neglected in school and university EFL courses, possibly because the language taught there tends to be formal, and one-word verbs are often preferred to their PV equivalents (cancel for call off, eradicate for stamp out, etc.). Teaching the PVs is not, however, very difficult, at least as regards the 90% or more of them that are compounds, not idioms. Once learners are familiar with the main meanings of the adverb particles, the sense of most PVs becomes transparent. This set of worksheets will present and practise those meanings, and then give mixed practice in all of them together. No attempt is made to teach idiomatic PVs.
