Detective teams begin with information about leaf types, shapes, etc, how they are described and classified and then on to using a dichotomous key to practice identifying leaves.
There is some math concepts included: measurement, radius, using a compass.
There is a short activity to identify the “Toilet Paper Culprits” and then on to the main activity, “Yosemite Gold Heist”.
NOTE: I used this lesson with 7th and 8th graders but it could be leveled up or down.
