Printable labels for mason jars / boxes which can be placed in the classroom to encourage pupils to share their ideas and emotions with the teacher in a safe and comfortable way.

Pupils place anything they wish their teacher knew about them inside their jar. This may be something they are worried about e.g. ‘My brother is ill at the moment’ or ‘I overheard that we might have to move house’ / something they are proud of e.g. ‘I tried out for my local football team this weekend’ or ‘I made friends with X today and we played together at break time’.

This is a very simple but hugely useful way to get to know your pupils better and to empathise with them, especially for the quieter ones in your class.

Note: optional second jar added so that teachers can also model sharing things with their pupils. This helps build a rapport with your class whether it’s on the first day or midway through the year. If you’re brave enough, show your pupils that you are human too by adding things into your jar for them to read.
