Calendar skills are real-life skills, and they are as much about communication arts skills as they are about math skills. A few years back, I created this Calendar Center packet of activities and it seemed to help my students gain the ability to read and manage a calendar, communicate about upcoming events, write dates correctly, and make connections about Earth’s revolution around the sun and the Gregorian calendar. So, I updated the activities to align with the 2023 calendar and added a few new activities for this packet.

This packet includes 16 calendar activity sheets. Most of the sheets require students to have access to a 12-month calendar, so I’ve included two. One is a nature calendar with colorful wildlife photographs that students should enjoy. (I also added a basic 12-month calendar and a “year-at-a-glance” calendar.) There’s a pre-test and a post-test. My suggestion is that you pre-assess your students, track their completion of the activities and then compare their pre- and post-test scores using the included checklist/spreadsheet.

I designed these materials to be used “learning center style,” with students completing the activities independently as enrichment-type learning. However, they could also be a once-a-week assignment to extend through most of the second semester, homework practice, reinforcement for mini-lessons, etc.
