We all know that the initial interaction is between parents and the child. Parents usher the child into the social world through interaction. Often maternal love and care have been described as the most important influences on an infant’s future development (Bowlby, 1973). However there are children who are very close to their parents while others remain “disconnected.” In this lecture, we are going to focus on the kinds of bonds that exist between a child and the parent.
