A well planned and really fun Geography Christmas mapping lesson suitable for all ages at secondary and all abilities that uses lots of Geographical skills!
This lesson contains a full walk through on how to use a compass, scale and map so can easily be taught by non-specialists and supports students who might struggle by using examples.
Task 1: Reading directions on a map. Students use a world map to note down which direction Santa is travelling as he moves from country to country.
Task 2: Reading scale on a map. Students use the scale to measure the distances Santa has travelled.
Task 3: Plotting Santa´s journey across the world. Students measure direction and distance and plot Santa´s movements on the map, revealing a hidden message if they do it correctly… XMas!
The lesson contains starters, challenges and extensions and is well organised with a title and clear learning objectives.
