One photocopiable pack for bonfire week. “Remember the Fifth” gives a Year 5 or 6 class the story of the Gunpowder Plot as a reading text with ten marks of questions, a cut-and-order timeline of ten strips, a twelve-word vocabulary match, a fire-safety sort, three writing tasks, a twelve-question self-marking quiz and every answer key on one page you keep.

What you print. Pages 2 to 6 are pupil material, one A4 each. Page 7 holds all four answer keys. Page 8 is seven talk cards, an exit ticket and a ranking close. The pack runs as a single 60-minute lesson, a literacy-week sequence or a Friday in November, and it photocopies cleanly in black and white.

Coverage. History (an event beyond the chronology the class already knows), English reading and writing, PSHE fire safety, and speaking and listening. No prior knowledge of 1605 is assumed, and nothing needs cross-marking.

Editable. The zip also carries every pupil-facing word as an RTF and a plain-text file, so you can change a name, a date or a sentence and reprint in two minutes.

A note on the sensitive parts. The plot is described without graphic detail and the execution is referred to only as the punishment for treason. Read the passage aloud first and let pupils ask questions before they write. The safety page mirrors the steps UK fire services publish each November.

How this pack was made. Dates and events follow the standard published accounts of the Gunpowder Plot, and the safety steps follow current UK fire-service guidance. The wording, questions and answer keys were drafted and checked, then typeset with a scripted document build and reviewed page by page. No image-generation model produced any part of this resource.
