A complete 12-day reading resource for Dick King-Smith’s “The Hodgeheg” — short enough to fit in a half term, structured so every lesson is ready to go.
The structure alternates: one day you read and explore the text together, the next day children answer questions on it. It gives the lessons a good rhythm and means the PowerPoint does the heavy lifting on reading days, so question days feel earned rather than rushed.
All texts are in Comic Sans throughout. The PowerPoints break each extract into manageable chunks before children meet the questions, so nobody’s going in cold.
It fits naturally as a daily guided reading block, a whole-class novel study, or a standalone comprehension unit — however your timetable works.
The Hodgeheg is a short book but a very funny one, and Max’s attempts to figure out how humans cross the road safely tend to go down well with Year 3 or 4s. The resources are built around the whole story, so by the end your class will have read it all.
